Original Watercolor Prints and Paintings

Call me Bob. I live with my wife, Severina, in Hermitage, Tennessee on land where Andrew Jackson looked for stray cows, hunted squirrels, or did whatever he did on property adjoining his home. I have four children and three grandchildren, most of whom live within casual visiting distance.

I was born, raised and educated in New York state, worked in package design, and moved to Williamsburg, Virginia where, surrounded by colonial history, I worked at advertising. Aladdin Industries brought me to Nashville where I designed and illustrated children's lunch kits; The Dukes of Hazzard, Grizzly Adams, The Incredible Hulk, Disney's Magic Kingdom, and The Secret of NIMH being a few of the six years of kits that I created. A few of these are in the Smithsonian but, alas!, more are for sale on eBay.
I'm a freelance illustrator for several religious and secular publishing houses in and around Nashville. My work is generally for children and done as tight illustrations using airbrush with gouache or paper sculpture. The Nativity Triptych is an example of the former.

When I'm not illustrating, painting, singing, playing the guitar, collecting political buttons, or listening to music from Aaron Copland to The Kingston Trio to The Chieftains, I'm shooting stereo photographs, building strange, moveable, wooden sculptures, reading, planning our next trip, waiting for baseball season to begin, playing with my wife and kids (the youngest is in his twenties), or looking for something else to do in my spare time.

When I find a subject that interests me I seem to zone in on detail. This is evident in Gettysburg. Devil's Den, the site of such slaughter, is today a mass of boulders over which visitors climb, mainly to see what's on the other side. Occasionally a reflective person will stand here and ponder what happened, but not often. I chose to paint the scene with as much minutia as possible. I used on-site sketches for color and numerous photographs for detail. Now I can do my own reflecting.

Some of the detail in my work is there, not because it is important, but because it is often overlooked or underrated. I used Horace Greeley's statue in Old New York rather than the more famous Wall Street monument to Washington. The Statue of Liberty is included but from an angle not often shown. The tuna sandwich and chocolate shake is not the most opulent meal in Nashville, but it was most satisfying on the day it was consumed. All of this detail is my invitation to you to see things through my eyes. It's an offer no different than that of any artist or illustrator who has ever lived.

The prints and other materials in my collection were printed on a small, well-maintained Heidelberg press, one color at a time, and with a careful attention to both color and registration. The paper is 65 lb. Brite White VIA felt cover. The photo lithographic process allowed me to offer a high quality product at a reasonable price. Each print is individually signed and numbered.
